Despite the fact that the 2024 presidential election is more than three years away, Republican voters are already preparing who will run on the Republican ticket, knowing that the party has a good chance of retaking the White House.
Former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are the two front-runners that keep popping up.
DeSantis gave a hint about his political future to the 750 GOP members in attendance at the Republican Committee of Allegheny County’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner.
As the crowd exploded, DeSantis said, “I can tell you this: In the state of Florida, with me as governor, I have only begun to fight.”
Take a look at what the Daily Wire said:
Earlier in the event, a local priest prayed over the meal and said DeSantis would be an excellent next president of the United States. The audience echoed this sentiment.
DeSantis emphasized his fights against businesses, radical groups, and politicians during his address. The governor touted new laws aimed at tackling big tech censorship, as well as his advocacy for the police and schools that are free of vital race theory courses.
Florida’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic was also praised by DeSantis. Florida had one of the lightest pandemic responses, focusing on the safety of those who were most susceptible to the epidemic.
“To any state that has not followed suit, all I can say is open your state, open your schools, stop these mask mandates, and let people live and thrive,” DeSantis said. “When it comes down to it, democracy won out over Fauci-ism.”
DeSantis won the governorship of Florida by around 33,000 votes over Democrat Andrew Gillum in 2018. DeSantis has received strong support from Floridians for his pandemic response and other initiatives, despite the razor-thin margin.
